There are other ways to handle the attachments. They're not as easy, but they're definitely reusable.

The way I handle it these days is to have each attachment as a response document, then a little subform widget where I can represent the listed attachments for a given document. That gives greater flexibility over who can delete them, too. And it allows you to set up descriptions associated with the files and metadata like author and modification time.

It's a bit of a pain in that each file has to be uploaded at a time. But in my experience so far, that's not a showstopper.
